If Our Walls Could Talk

If our walls could talk, they would captivate you with stories of a rich and fascinating past. Constructed with reclaimed wood from homes of the property’s past owners, our guesthouses are full of historic charm. The first guesthouse was constructed in 2016, but the property has been an integral part of the Washburn community since 1798 when the first parcel of farmland was purchased by the Acuff family.

All in the Family

Bear Creek Farm has been passed down through generations of the Acuff family and now lies in the trusted hands of Mark Page and his family. Mark grew up visiting his great grandparents, Rabe and Ollie, when they owned the farm and a small convenience store near their property. Mark would often help out with small chores around the farm and reward himself with candy from his great-grandparents’ store. As Mark grew up, the farm grew and evolved, and it was eventually passed down to his grandparents, Warren and Dorris. Some of Mark’s fondest memories are helping his grandfather around the farm on the weekends and listening to his stories. When Mark entered his early teenage years, he told his grandfather, “I’m going to build a cabin at the farm one day.” Mark’s grandfather would smile and say, “Okay, buddy.”

Okay, Buddy. It’s Time.

Mark rented a bulldozer and started constructing a cabin at Bear Creek Farm in 2016, only three days after his grandfather, Warren, passed away. Mark honors his grandfather’s memory through every project on the property. As you walk the grounds and rest in your beautifully crafted guesthouse, take note of the photographs you see that honor the generations of the family that kept the farm going for so many years.

Life is Better on the Farm

For centuries, Bear Creek Farm has homed many animals and yielded many crops including corn, tomatoes and tobacco. Today, Bear Creek Farm is a fully operational livestock farm with cattle, goats, pigs and chickens. During your stay at Bear Creek Lodge, you may wake up to the sound of the rooster crowing or see animals grazing in the field while you relax on your guesthouse deck. Take a deep breath and enjoy the tranquility of life on the farm.
